Teaching and Education
Private Lessons Overview -
Lessons will include a variety of activities such as exercises to improve personal playing technique, scales and arpeggios, help with school material, assistance with audition material, and personal and lesson repertoire. Your child will be given various repertoire to enhance their skills and confidence in different musical areas such as bowings, articulation, dynamics, tone, bow usage and placement, contact point, posture, and many other skills essential to your child's success. Repertoire will be chosen that is not too difficult but will quickly lift your student to new levels of playing. We will also do a recital at the end of every school year to celebrate their progress. Fun will also be a focus of these lessons. Every student needs to have a healthy balance of striving to make progress, and have fun while doing it.
I am available to teach students of all ages, however, if your student is under the age of 18, someone over the age of 14 MUST attend the lessons with the student. I am able to teach any skill level from beginners to an advanced college audition level. I can also teach adults if you are wanting to pick up a new skill, practice with your child, or have a goal you want to meet.
Private Lessons Rates of Charge -
Private lessons are important to a student's individual growth. Learning Violin in school is a wonderful opportunity, however, a student can progress much further and enjoy their instrument more due to private instruction. I teach at BYU-Idaho in their ensemble practice rooms on the upper floor of the Snow Building.
It is generally a good idea to start with a 30 minute lesson for beginning or intermediate players.
At BYU-Idaho
30 minute on-campus lesson ($22.50)
1 hour on-campus lesson ($45)
Availability -
The closer your lesson can be to the beginning of my availability, the more likely I will be able to help you find a spot in the studio. Please fill out the form on the "Lesson Enrollment" tab to sign up.
I teach Tuesdays and Thursdays (except from 3:00-4:30 on Tuesday and 12:45-1:45 on both days). Lessons follow the Madison School District calendar. I teach every week that school is in session. I do not teach the week of Christmas or Thanksgiving. I do not teach during spring break.
*In the past I have offered at-home lesson visits however, as of the 24-25 school year, those will no longer be offered and all lessons will take place on campus at BYU-Idaho.*
Directions to Studio -
The Studio is inside one of the BYU-Idaho Large Ensemble rooms in the Eliza R. Snow Performing Arts Center. There are visitor parking spots on the southwest side of the building, though anyone can park in a BYU-I parking lot after 4PM.Â
The Snow building address is S Center St, Rexburg, ID 83460. The Ensemble Practice rooms are on the top floor in the very south east corner and are all labeled 281. If you have trouble finding the studio, you can go to Google Maps (here) and type "BYU-I Student Music Lessons."
